John Cabot came to Bristol Town,
Sing ho for America.
And told us all the World is round.
For America, sail ho.
West to America, at Henry’s bidding we will go.
The Matthew will carry us
To America, sail ho!

So in ninety seven he set sail.
John Cabot knew he could not fail.

For four and fifty days or more
The Matthew had no sight of shore.

Through North Atlantic breakers blew
Till Newfoundland came into view.

To Nova Scotia next he turned,
But for old Bristol Town he yearned.

So back to Bristol Cabot came,
No more to roam the seas again.
